TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT

1 SET GOALS

The first step to making your time efficient is to set your goals right. Having good planning always makes you cope with the task. The 5 parameters that should be used to set goals are:

Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely

You need to make a To-do list or a checklist, as making a checklist helps you define your goals clearly and remove all the unnecessary hurdles.

2 PRIORITIZE YOUR GOALS

The book ‘EAT THAT FROG’ is one of the best examples of how to set goals. The first step of this book explains how you should always do your most important tasks first. If you don’t prioritize your essential tasks, then you tend to gain no fruitful results. prioritizing tasks is essential as the task that gives you the maximum results needs to be done in the most productive manner.

There are four quadrants, look at them and understand which tasks need to be performed when:

  • Tasks that are important and not urgent: Do these tasks every day

  • Tasks that are important but not urgent: Make a plan of when you need to do these tasks

  • Urgent but not important:  Delegate them later or to someone

  • Tasks that are not urgent and not important: You can perform these tasks when you are absolutely free.

Always make sure that the goals you are setting are realistic and achievable, it should serve and justify your purpose in life. So the best way is to take advantage of the golden hours or the biological prime hours, as this time is the most suitable one, where we are energetic and tend to complete our work in less time and achieve more results.

3 SET DEADLINES

When you have scheduled important tasks and prioritized them, now you need to set time limits. Setting time limits helps you stay productive with your goals and prevents time wastage.

Suppose you wish to complete a business plan and you set a deadline to devote 2 hours daily and finish it in the next 7 days. So, now you know your business plan is portrayed and now you can go further with planning the next step to show it to your clients. So having a  time check and tracking your work progress is very important to meet deadlines and get productive results.

This is the reason why people stress in the end and they don’t reap better results, the only to do less and achieve more is to do it on time by setting time limits. You can either set deadlines through an alarm, calendars, or through time tracking apps.

4 TAKE BREAKS

The only part of staying productive at work is to schedule breaks in between, F.W TAYLOR stated in his ‘FATIGUE STUDY’, that people tend to decrease their productivity at work if they work for long hours.

Pomodoro technique is the best way to schedule your work and also take breaks and keep working. Having a nap, playing with your pet, going on a walk, or listening to some refreshing music can also help you to take a good refreshing page.

5 Remove/ Delegate unnecessary task

After being aware of what is good time management and how to implement the tips for effective time management, we also need to understand ‘THE IMPLICATIONS OF POOR TIME MANAGEMENT.
